Alpaca Fiber is one of the warmest, strongest, most luxurious fibers in the mammalian world. It is water, wrinkle and odor resistant. Soft as cashmere, it is low allergenic, as it does not contain lanolin.
All our alpaca fiber is from our own herd of Huacayas, who are shorn once, every year, before summer hits.

Alpaca yarn is known worldwide for its durability, work ability, softness, strength and breath ability. Soft as cashmere, warm as wool with 1/3 the weight, it is water and odor resistant. Hen Aprons (aka Chicken Saddles) are a wonderful resource to protect certain members of your flock from either bullying or an overly amorous rooster.
Our aprons are made of sturdy 2 ply cotton with 1/2″ elastic banding. To use a hen apron, secure your hen, slip one band over her wing, until it rests comfortably in the shoulder joint. Then slip the second band over her other wing until the band is resting comfortably in that shoulder joint. Some hens will be natural escape artists. We recommend waiting until they’ve gone to roost for the night before attempting to put one on, so that they have the while night to get used to it.
